Halestorm are are set to release their fifth album, Back From the Dead, on May 6th.
In advance of the release, Halestorm singer-guitarist Lzzy Hale spoke with Heavy Consequence via Zoom about the very personal meaning behind the album title and single of the same name and much more.
“The title to me is survival,” Hale said in the video above. “After everything, personally, that I’ve been through and that we’ve been though as a band and everyone else that I can think of — millions and millions of people have gone through those ups and downs. Just being able to have faith that things are going to return to some kind of — I’m not even hoping things will return to normal. I just want to keep moving forward. Let’s keep evolving. Let’s keep moving.”
She added of the song’s positive response, “It’s fulfilling to know that what you were feeling when you were writing these songs and writing specifically that song — what you were feeling was valid and that there were so many other people that felt that, too. I’m able to stand up onstage, and everybody is able to stand up with their fist in the air in the audience and be like, ‘We are here. We are on the other side. We’re all in this together. We’re celebrating the return of this happy place that we all have, and that back and forth is beautiful.'”
Elsewhere in the interview, Hale discussed the early days of Halestorm. “We started the band when I was 13 and my brother [Arejay] was almost 11, so he was 10 … We started because he was always so good at playing drums. He was sort of born right out of the womb ready to go, so I shortly realized that I could write these silly songs and he could play to them, and now we’re a band.”
Halestorm will kick off a headlining Spring tour with support from Stone Temple Pilots and Mammoth WVH on May 10th, and will also embark on a headlining Summer tour with direct support from The Pretty Reckless. Pick up tickets to Halestorm’s upcoming shows via Ticketmaster.
